Your family has a plan and a kit now it's time to get the house ready for hurricane season. A well built home can stand up to hurricanes so gather the family to make sure your house is hurricane-ready. The best place to start is to take a good inventory of your home to see what is ok and what needs attention. Get everyone involved on go on a Home Hurricane Hunt. All of the information you gather will help you complete a self guided wind inspection. Don't forget to consider other risks that come along with hurricanes like flooding and lightning.

Consider planning a block party and when you're there, check out the neighborhood for anything that could pose a risk during a storm. Double check for loose limbs on trees and make sure you know all of the things you will need to bring inside or tie down if a storm does come to your area. This is also a great time to check on neighbors that may need some additional help getting their home ready. Remember, the wind doesn't care who the garden gnome belongs to, it could still end up your backyard.

If a storm does come your way, make sure you have a board up plan or be sure that your shutters are ready to go. Visit FLASH.org for additional information about pre-storm preparations and tips.
